Six Motivational Tools to Jumpstart Your Work Year
Fall, and the beginning of the work/school year, is probably my favorite time of year. So much excitement and potential.
As usual, my beginning-of-fall post outlines resources I offer that can help you get off to a running start. Please see below.
Also, I’m well along the way in my new book, How to Get Willpower for Weight Loss, and am looking for manuscript readers. If you are interested in that topic and want to read and comment on my manuscript please email me. I’m looking for female and male readers.

3) Online Class for Everyone!
I will be teaching a 4-week online productivity class for writers at www.savvyauthors.com starting Monday, November 4. All writers (including business, nonprofit, academic, and creative) will benefit. The class is run as an email list: I post two lessons a week, and we spend the rest of the week discussing them. Online classes are inexpensive, super convenient, and fun; you’ll meet supportive writers of all kinds from around the world and work together in an atmosphere of mutual support. Click here for more information or to register. $30/$25.
4) New England Classes
My next Grub Street Writers class starts Sunday, 10/14, at 6:30 p.m.
Creative, business, nonprofit, and academic writers from throughout New England have benefited from my Grub Street Writers classes. Grub’s small classes (12 people maximum) ensure a personalized learning experience alongside other professional and results-focused writers. This semester I’m teaching Sunday night, so the commute should be easy for out-of-towners. Plus Grub offers a convenient (and fun!) downtown Boston location, plus subsidized parking in the Boston Common Garage.
Venue: Grub Street Writers, 162 Boylston Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02116.
Dates: 6 Sunday nights starting 10/14; 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $305 (or $280 with Grub membership)

5) How to Make the Fastest Progress
Nothing accelerates progress faster than coaching. Each season I take on a select number of new clients and help them get more productive and/or finish their projects. Coaching begins with a Needs Analysis, where we’ll explore in-depth your productivity patterns and challenges, and then design solutions to the latter. Then we proceed to Mentorship, where I provide direct, targeted assistance, right when you need it. People often report making more progress in the week following coaching than they had for years previously.
I coach people from around the world via phone and Skype, and structure my coaching so you can use it as little or often as you need to. Email me for more information or to book an appointment.
6) Tools for Graduate Students and Faculty
Please check out my new website www.howtofinishmythesis.com, which contains the entire “Publishing Without Perishing” section from The 7 Secrets of the Prolific (see below), plus additional information useful to academic writers.
Also, in early October, I am starting my Academic Writing Catalyst Program, a weekly inexpensive teleconferencing series that will help academic writers get more productive and finish their theses and other projects. Email me for more information.
